About Flo Rida
Tramar Lacel Dillard, better known by his stage name Flo Rida, was born in Carol City, Florida in 1979. He has seven sisters and he was raised alongside them by their two parents. Flo Rida and some of his sisters sang together in a gospel group when they were young.
When Flo Rida was in ninth grade, his brother-in-law worked for the rap group known as 2 Live Crew. At the same time, Flo Rida joined a trio rap group called the GroundHoggz. With the addition of Flo Rida to the group, there were now four GroundHoggz members. The group stayed together for eight years.
Through the connection with his brother-in-law, Flo Rida was able to work with 2 Live Crew, which earned him the attention of a well-known musician. After being rejected by many record labels, however, Flo Rida began to look for work outside of the music industry.
He graduated high school in 1998 and went on to attend two colleges for a total time span of four months. After his stint in college, he returned to Florida and again pursued his passion for music. After receiving a phone call from an agent with the record label Poe Boy Entertainment, Flo Rida signed with the label. It was then that he adopted his now world-renowned stage name.
Flo Rida’s first significant song was “Birthday Cake,” which featured Rick Ross and was released in 2006. Two years later, in 2008, Flo Rida released his first full album, titled Mail on Sunday. The first single from the album was “Low” and it was number one on Billboard Hot 100. Three other singles from the album, “In the Ayer,” “Roll,” and “Elevator,” also earned spots on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
Following the success of his first album, Flo Rida released his second album, titled R.O.O.T.S., in 2009. The single “Right Round” from that album set the record for the most digital downloads in a week at 636,000. The previous record was also held by Flo Rida with his hit single “Low.”
The following year, in 2010, Flo Rida released yet another album. This one was titled Only One Flo (Part One). Following the incredibly success of this album, Flo Rida created his own record label, called International Music Group. He has signed two artists to his label.
In 2012, Flo Rida released his most recent album, titled Wild Ones. The original title was Only One Rida (Part Two), but the title was changed to mirror the name of one of the hit tracks featured on the album.
In 2014, Flo Rida released his EP My House. He has announced that he is currently working on another full-length album.
