Garth Brooks Net Worth History
Garth Brooks has had six albums certified diamond and has sold over 200 million albums across the globe. The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has listed Brooks as the bestselling solo artist of the 20th Century. There are some who disagree as they state Elvis Presley’s sales were not recorded correctly; however if you take Presley’s sales into account it would still make Brook’s at the top in the last 20 years. He began his singing career by performing in bars and clubs while attending college at Oklahoma State University. The first attempt in Nashville to enter the Country Music scene was unsuccessful; however in 1987 with the help of music manager, Bob Doyle he was able to sign with Capitol Records. Brook’s early hits were; If Tomorrow Never Comes and The Dance.
Garth Brooks had announced he was going to retire in 2000; however has since come out of retirement and continued with tours and the release of new albums. He also signed a contract with the Wynn in Las Vegas for three years where all shows sold out.
About Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks stared his career in Tulsa Oklahoma while attending college at Oklahoma State University. This is where he met his first wife, Sandy. They met at a bar where Brooks worked as a bouncer and Sandy often went. They were married in 1986 and divorced in 2001. Their divorce is reported to be one of the most expensive divorces of all times with Garth paying Sandy a $125 million settlement. In 2005 Garth Brooks remarried to a fellow country music artist Trisha Yearwood.
The release of an album titled, Life of Chris Gaines in 1999 surprised a lot of fans and was not a good seller. It was an album about a fictional Australian grunge rocker. Brooks was able to rebound from this when he won three American Music Awards in 2000 and was also awarded favorite male country artist. At the end of the year he announced retirement stating he wanted to spend more time with his wife Sandy and their three children daughters, Taylor, August and Allie. He did release an album in 2001 which made number one on the Billboard charts and the last album from him for over a decade. His struggle to continue working and family life ended in 2001 when he divorced Sandy and officially retired from performing and recording.
In 2009 Garth Brooks came back to the music scene and started performing on the Las Vegas Strip and in 2010 performed a concert where he donated the proceeds to flood victims in Tennessee. In recent years Brooks has received many special honors as a top-selling country music artist. He was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2011 and was honored by George Strait and James Taylor when he became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Garth Brooks announced a 2014 world tour and linked a contract with Sony Music for his first studio album since 2001. He released, Man Against Machine around the same time he appeared as presenter on the Country Music Awards last November.
