Cosgrove was born in Los Angeles, California to parents Tom and Chris Cosgrove. When Cosgrove was only three years old, she was singing and dancing at a local restaurant when she was discovered by an agent. The agent approached the toddler and her mother and inquired about whether the young girl would be interested in modeling. Cosgrove accepted the offer and modeled, as well as appeared in commercials for companies like McDonald’s and for products like Mello Yello. When Cosgrove was seven, she decided to begin auditioning for television roles.
In 2001, Cosgrove landed her first television role when she lent her voice to character on the premiere of Smallville. Two years later, in 2003, Cosgrove had her film debut when she starred in School of Rock alongside Jack Black. Her acting received great reviews from critics and the film was a huge success.
Following her performance in School of Rock, Cosgrove landed the role of Megan in the popular television series Drake and Josh. This was the first time that the young Cosgrove had landed a major television role and it greatly boosted her acting career. While performing for Drake and Josh, Cosgrove was cast in yet another prominent role in a film. In 2008, the iCarly soundtrack was released, which also marked Cosgrove’s musical debut. She had four singles appear on the soundtrack and her musical work was generally liked by critics.
