Shaun White has been skateboarding and snowboarding since he was six years old. His skill on a skateboard helped him catch the eye of pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk, at the age of nine. The two men developed a relationship quickly and it was Hawk who assisted white in entering his first professional Skateboarding competitions. White officially turned pro at age 17. His early victories garnered him recognition, respect and prize money. After winning the Action Sports Tour championship title, his net worth began to grow. When little Saun White was diagnosed with a Tetralogy of Fallot as an infant, nobody was sure that he would be able to lead an active lifestyle. After two surgeries, the boy was given a clean bill of health and a new lease on life. Boy did he take advantage of it.
The young White would spend much of his formative years shuttling between Big Bear and Okemo Mountain, two small ski resort towns in California and Vermont, respectively. By the age of 7 he had earned his first sponsorship as a snowboarder.
He would go on to set major records in men’s sports, including the first quadruple winning streak in a single discipline for his snowboard slopestyle. He was also the first person to compete in the summer and winter X-Games in two different sports. In 2012, White became the first person to score a perfect 100 in the men’s Snowboard Superpipe at Winter-X.The following year he would achieve his 6th consecutive Superpipe victory, making him the second athlete to ever have such a long winning streak. The 28-year-old athlete has participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 Winter Olympics, receiving two gold medals for the halfpipe and being named the most talked about person on Facebook.
White has managed to find a balance between his media presence and his professional ethics. He told Outside Magazine in 2007 that he turns down many film roles because his first line was “What up bruh”. Not one to be typecast, Shaun has developed a media presence that has made him a household name. Shaun appeared in the film “Friends With Benefits” (2011), an episode of “American Dad!” (2013), and the Disney Channel movie “Cloud 9” (2014). Shaun White Snowboarding, a 2008 video game was not only named after him but demonstrated by him at Nintendo’s Press Conference.
In 2012, the young athlete had a minor run-in with the law, being arrested for public intoxication and vandalism after attending a wedding party. He has since made public apologies for his misconduct.
