Kimora Lee Simmons is a former model and former Creative Director and President of the clothing line Baby Phat. Over the years, she enjoyed a lucrative modeling career, authored a lifestyle book, and launched five Coty fragrances. Kimora served as judge on the first season of America’s’ Next Top Model and co-hosted the television show Life & Style. She worked as Executive Producer of Def Poetry Jam which won a Tony award and starred in her own reality show in 2007, Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane. In 2004, Baby Phat was sold for $140 million. Growing up in St. Louis, Kimora was often bullied because of her height and Japanese/Black origin. By the time she was 10 years old, she was five feet, ten inches tall. Her mother enrolled in her modeling classes and she was discovered at the age of 11. By the time she was 14, she was signed to an exclusive modeling contract with Chanel. At fifteen, she bought herself a Rolex watch and a used BMW convertible. Her classmates had even more of a reason to taunt her. Despite all the negativity and travelling back and forth between Paris and Missouri, she managed to make Honor Society and graduate on time.

At 17, she met rap mogul Russell Simmons. Almost 20 years his junior, Kimora’s mother finally gave her blessing for their relationship to blossom and they were married in 1998. Their union proved unique and they were soon hailed as hip-hop royalty. Kimora successfully operated alongside him and not behind him. She began to take over the baby clothing line that Russell was working on and called named it Baby Phat. The clothing line eventually included urban women’s wear, shoes, and accessories. Kimora and Russell had their first daughter in 2000, Ming Lee Simmons. Two years later, they welcomed a second daughter, Aoki Lee Simmons. Although the couple divorced in 2008, they continue to work together. Recently, Kimora relaunched her high end KLS label which is opening its first boutique in Beverly Hills.

Kimora began dating actor Djimon Hounsou and have one son, Kenzou Lee Hounsou. Although never legally married, they separated in 2012. She was married to Tim Leissner in 2013 and they have one son together, Wolfe Lee Leissner.

On March 18, 2008, the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri named the day “Kimora Day” and presented her with the key to the city.
