Randy Jackson began playing guitar when he was thirteen years old. He is the youngest of three children and use to sneak out of the house at night to play the guitar in local clubs. In 1979 he graduated from Southern University having studied music. He then began to follow his dream of becoming a professional musician by playing with Herbie Hancock to Bob Dylan. Jackson even filled in as a temporary with the 80’s rock band, Journey.
Other famous names Jackson toured or recorded with include: Jerry Garcia, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna. He also spent several years behind the scenes at Columbia Records and MCA Records as a record producer and executive. In 2003 he underwent gastric bypass which led to a 100 pound drop in his weight. He has written a book, Body with Soul: Slash Sugar offering advice to others and sharing his experiences.
Randy Jackson currently lives in Los Angeles, California with Erika his wife he married in 1995. The couple has two children, Zoe and Jordan. Jackson also has one daughter, Taylor from a previous marriage.
