Saul Hudson better known as Slash to his friends, to his colleagues, to his huge fan base, and the music industry, is a hard rock guitarist. He is mostly known for being the lead guitarist for the hard rock group Guns N’ Roses. Slash was a member of Guns N’ Roses from 1985 to 1996, and took part in the recording and releasing of five studio albums: Appetite For Destruction (1987), G N’ R Lies (1988), Use Your Illusion I & II (1991) and “The Spaghetti Incident?” (1993). During the time Slash was a member of Guns N’ Roses, they sold approximately 76 million albums. They were also nominated for 22 awards and won 9 of them. In 1994, two years before he left Guns N’ Roses, Slash formed a side project band called Slash’s Snakepit, which lasted until 2002. Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke from Guns N’ Roses joined him in the project. Mike Inez from Alice In Chains and Eric Dover from Jellyfish completed the lineup. Slash’s Snakepit released two studio albums: It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere (1995) and Ain’t Life Grand (2000). The next band that Slash joined was more of a super-group, called Velvet Revolver which was formed in 2002 with Slash and two members from Guns N’ Roses, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Dave Kushner joined and Scott Weiland, vocalist for the Stone Temple Pilots, completed the lineup. Velvet Revolver went on to record two studio albums: Contraband (2004) and Libertad (2007) before it disbanded in 2008. In 2008, Slash ventured into doing solo work. In September 2008, he started working on his debut solo album called Slash which was released in 2010. He later released two more solo albums featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators called Apocalyptic Love (2012) and World On Fire (2014). Slash did session work and collaborative works with many different artists, interspersed throughout his career like: Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Carole King, Alice Cooper, Marta Sánchez, Insane Clown Posse, rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard and rock band Fishbone. Slash also contributed music to the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown.
Slash is a renowned guitarist who is highly acclaimed and greatly respected in the music industry. In 2005, he was named “Best Guitarist” by Esquire magazine. In 2007, Slash was honored with a star on the Rock Walk of Fame alongside Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix. Also, in 2007 he was presented with the title, “Riff Lord” during Metal Hammer’s fourth annual Golden Gods awards. In 2008, Slash ranked No. 21 on Gigwise’s list of “The 50 Greatest Guitarists Ever”. In 2009 Time magazine ranked Slash second, behind Jimi Hendrix who was first, on its “Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time” list. In 2011, Rolling Stone magazine placed Slash at No. 65 on their list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” In 2012, Slash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members of the classic lineup of Guns N’ Roses. Also in 2012, Slash got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, directly in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Boulevard. On the personal side, Slash is the father of two sons, whom he had while he was married to Perla Ferrar. His sons are London Emilio (born August 28, 2002) and Cash Anthony (born June 23, 2004). Slash is also a philanthropist as he is an honorary board member of Little Kids Rock, a national nonprofit organization, who’s main concern is to place music educational programs in public schools to give kids exposure to all types of music.
