Trey Songz has proved himself to be a very talented singer. He released his first album, I Gotta Make It, in 2005. This album sold 395,000 copies. His two albums after that, Trey Day and Ready, are what brought him worldwide fame. With hits, such as “Can’t Help but Wait”, “Say Aah” and “I Invented Sex” and a different image from when he first started out in the business, Trey continues to reinvent himself.

Trey Songz traveled around the country starting at 7 years old. His stepfather was a member of the U.S. Army and they had to move to various military bases. His family returned back to Peterburg, Virginia, when Trey was 14 and this is when he began to sing. He was discovered by a New Jersey music producer, Troy Taylor, but encouraged him to finish him school before trying to get a record deal. Therefore, he formed a vocal group in high school called All Night Productions and they would perform and different local parties and events.

Trey signed with Atlantic Records in 2003 and made his I Gotta Make it album in 2003. This album made it to No. 20 on the Billboard charts. His second album, Trey Day was released in 2007. This album peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard charts. It featured one of his greatest hits, “Can’t Help But Wait”. This song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Male Vocal Performance. His third album, Ready, was released in 2009. With this album, Trey hoped to gain crossover appeal and more recognition nationally. He reinvented himself, by giving himself a low hair cut, when to his fans he was known for hair braids. He also showed off his body more and had a more grown up appeal. He also reinvented his sound with more sexual lyrics and hip hop, club beats. This album reached No. 3 on the billboard and had numerous hit singles. For this album, he was nomination for a Grammy in the Best Contemporary R&B Album category, as well as winning a 2010 BET Award for Best Male R&B Artist. His next album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure was released in 2010. It featured hit singles “Bottoms Up” and “Can’t Be Friends”. His next album, Chapter V was released in 2012, it debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. His latest album, Trigga was released in 2014 and also debuted at No.1 on the same Billboard chart as his previous album.

Besides making his own records, Trey has been on plenty of his colleagues lending his soulful voice to enhance their songs. He has worked with artists, such as R.Kelly (who he has been compared to),

Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Drake and Chris Brown. He has also had a few acting roles in films, such as Texas Chainsaw 3D and Baggage Claim, both released in 2013.
